Marcy Greenfield is an audit principal at Berdon LLP, a CPA and advisory firm with offices in Jericho and New York City. With more than 15 years of experience in public accounting, Greenfield specializes in providing both audit and tax services to clients in the real estate arena and in the distribution sector, including wine businesses.
Greenfield’s expertise extends to areas that include planning and carrying out audits of financial statements; assessing whether the statements present a company’s financial situation, operations, and cash flows in accord with GAAP or another basis of accounting; spotlighting questionable areas and practices and offering suggestions to remediate the concerns; reviewing operations and internal controls to identify areas of exposure and develop ways to strengthen controls and increase efficiency; auditing 401(k) plans; helping ensure compliance with Internal Revenue Code, the Employee Retirement Income Security Act, and Department of Labor requirements; assuring that contributions are reasonable and paid into the plan on time; providing corporate tax planning and preparation services; identifying tax savings opportunities and ways to reduce exposure; and alerting clients to current and pending credits and advising on how to qualify.
Greenfield focuses on building business relationships for the firm’s Long Island office in Jericho. “I’ve joined local networking groups such as Middle Market Alliance of Long Island (MMALI), where I am currently the treasurer and the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) where I am on the education committee,” Greenfield said. “This gets me deeper into my community. These groups enable me to meet middle market professionals and build relationships.”
“My goal is to listen, ask questions, identify needs, and demonstrate how we can help businesses meet them, Greenfield noted. “I concentrate on real estate as well as manufacturing, distribution and retail industries in both the audit and tax area.”
Greenfield also provides technical training on an array of topics for new staff and is active in on-campus recruiting for the firm. She offered insights on the auditing process and identifying questionable practices in The Trusted Professional, a publication of the NYSSCPA.
Greenfield earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting at City University of New York – Brooklyn College and received a license as a certified public accountant in New York State.
